Web-Based Social Enterprise Pitches: Ideas in Development

"The Akili Initiative: An Online Student Think Tank for Global Health," Katherine Warren, Co-Founder, Co-Director, The Akili Initiative

Katherine Warren and Paloma Pineda, undergraduate students at Harvard University, founded The Akili Initiative, an online student think tank for global health. Warren explained that the idea for The Akili Initiative was spurred by students’ frustration with the lack of collaborative discussion of global health issues among the 150 different global health departments around the world. Therefore, The Akili Initiative serves as a think tank where students can converse with each other, in the form of blog posts and articles, about global health issues. Warren also introduced another unique feature of the program: the campus fellows. Through this part of the program, students can update their projects so that they can easily collaborate with their peers working in the same geographical area or intellectual field. The Akili Initiative serves as a great platform for students to share global health ideas with one another.
