Summary of Research Results: Daryl Ramai and Tim Pulisetty

Unite For Sight Global Impact Fellow volunteers frequently pursue public health research studies in Unite For Sight's Global Impact Lab program. The research topics are developed by Unite For Sight and the partner eye clinics, the research studies are approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the research findings are submitted to the eye clinic partners for program development.

Daryl Ramai & Tim Pulisetty, “Perceptions of children’s eye care from mothers & caretakers in Ghana”

Mothers and caretakers have previously attended outreach to obtain eye care, but they do not regularly bring their children. Results from this study on mother and caretaker perception of children’s eye care demonstrated that a majority of participants believed that children could benefit from eye exams. Yet, almost 90% did not consider bringing children to the outreach visit, citing primary reasons that children were not in the area, in school during outreach visits, or did not have known eye problems.
