Pailin Chiaranunt, "Identifying the Barriers to Care that Prevent Parents and Caretakers from Bringing Their Children for Eye Care to Outreach Clinics in Chennai and the Kalinga Eye Hospital in Orissa, India"

This study aims to identify barriers to eye care for children living in Chennai, India. Data was collected from 15 patients participating in Pranav Foundation’s outreaches during the summer of 2012. Among participants’ children, eye problems were relatively uncommon, and the majority of participants indicated that their children had received an eye exam previously. However, the results of a basic quiz about eye problems reveal that there is generally low understanding of eye care among families. Of the 15 participants, just 8 brought their children with them to the outreach. The remaining 7 reported that they did not bring any children because they did not have eye problems, suggesting the need for emphasis on preventive care and early diagnosis.
