Unite For Sight Patients in Ghana: Discussing Their Restored Sight

Patients in Nima, Ghana, discuss their experience receiving sight-restoring eye care from Unite For Sight's programs. Every Saturday, Unite For Sight and its partner eye clinics Crystal Eye Clinic (Accra) and Tema Christian Eye Centre (Tema) join together to provide on-site examinations and diagnosis for the patients in Nima. Those requiring advanced ophthalmic care and surgery are brought to Tema Christian Eye Centre for care by an ophthalmologist. Unite For Sight fully funds the screenings, medication, eyeglasses, and surgery, so that no patient remains blind due to lack of funds.

I was amazed at the amount of preventable and/or treatable causes of eye disease that have gone unchecked here for many years. So many people, not just the elderly, but young children, were permanently blind from diseases that are easily treated in the U.S. Working with the Unite for Sight team on these outreaches in service to these wonderful people of Ghana was the single most rewarding work I've done in my life.
