Donated Airline Tickets For Global Impact Fellows
Emirates Airline Foundation, in conjunction with the airline's frequent flyer program "Skywards" (http://www.skywards.com), has generously donated roundtrip economy class airfares for select Unite For Sight Global Impact Fellows to participate in Chennai, India, as well as in Ghana.
Unite For Sight is the world's leader in socially responsible, effective volunteering abroad. The organization engages, inspires, and trains high-impact volunteers to serve as Global Impact Fellows who support and assist eye clinics globally. The Global Impact Fellows participate in Unite For Sight's Global Impact Corps, a program that builds entrepeneurial leaders who gain skills in social change through Unite For Sight's immersive global health experience. Global Impact Fellows are nurtured to become new leaders in global health.
Unite For Sight's international programs are locally led and managed by partner eye clinics who provide year-round high quality eye care and continuity of care for all patients. The Global Impact Fellows work with local ophthalmic nurses, optometrists, and ophthalmologists to support and assist the clinic in outreach programs that reduce all of the barriers to health care, including financial, transportation, and education barriers. Support from Emirates Airline Foundation is enabling Global Impact Fellows to support and assist Unite For Sight's partner eye clinics. In addition to the foundation's new support for Global Impact Fellows, Emirates Airline Foundation has been a long-time supporter of Unite For Sight's volunteer optometrists and ophthalmologists who provide ophthalmic care and training programs alongside local eye doctors in Ghana.
"Through the years, Emirates Airline Foundation has generously supported dozens of our Global Impact Fellows, volunteer optometrists, and volunteer ophthalmologists to work with our eye clinic partners abroad," said Jennifer Staple, Founder, President and CEO of Unite For Sight. "We are very grateful for their support and for all that they are doing to provide sight-restoring eye care globally. Emirates Airline Foundation is significantly helping us to provide high quality, cost-effective care to the world's poorest people."
Scott A. McMahen, Secretary of the Emirates Airline Foundation, said "We are delighted to help Unite For Sight. Many of the airline's frequent flyer members of Skywards have donated their miles to our Foundation, and we are continually funding transportation for many doctors who travel all over our route network to perform surgeries and provide healthcare to those less fortunate."
