Chapter Volunteers
Chapter volunteers participate in Unite For Sight's visual acuity screening and vision education programs, which are held in community centers such as homeless shelters, soup kitchens, schools, libraries, and health clinics. You will also raise funds to sponsor sight-restoring surgeries for patients living in extreme poverty in Ghana, Honduras, and India. The volunteer training and orientation requirements are important to prepare you for the important work that you will do in your local community.
In North America, Unite For Sight has 90 chapters, and the role of every Unite For Sight chapter is to educate community members about the importance of receiving regular eye exams to prevent blindness. Unite For Sight’s chapters connect community members with resources so that they can receive a complete eye exam through existing resources. If a patient already has insurance that covers eye exams, volunteers emphasize the importance of making an appointment with an eye doctor using their available health insurance resources.
Our priority is to ensure that Unite For Sight volunteers make a high impact difference while participating in their community. Our research, experience, and evaluation has enabled us to develop a highly successful pre-service training and orientation process that fully prepares volunteers to contribute to the success of the Unite For Sight programs. The work of volunteers is vitally important, and the result of their work is profound.
